This year, Earth Overshoot Day lands on July 28th. This means that by that date, humans will have reached the point of depleting Earth’s resources faster than they can be regenerated this year. This is calculated by dividing the Earth’s biocapacity, or natural resources generated this year, by humans’ ecological footprint, or consumption, and multiplying by 365 (the number of days in a year). Here at Population Connection, we advocate for individual and societal change in order to #MoveTheDate back to December 31st, allowing the Earth to replenish its biological resources sustainably!
