For our Fall Speaker Series, we were fortunate to host such wonderful speakers from our international partnerships who are experts in the fields of reproductive health care and reproductive rights! We also co-hosted a panel with our sister organization, Population Connection Action Fund for an update on the state of reproductive rights advocacy during 2020’s election season. Drawing on his experiences as a OB/GYN, professor, and advisor, Dr. Hathaway’s presentation will help participants learn more about and better understand: a) the basics of female reproductive system, b) how to be reasonably certain a woman is not pregnant and c) her choices, assuring her that none of the methods cause abortions.
There have been concerted efforts in the last 10 years to increase access to Family Planning in French-speaking West Africa. The region has been lagging behind the rest of the world and remains one of the few regions in the world with countries that still have single-digit contraceptive prevalence rates. In his presentation, Gaye will explore what governments, civil society, and the donor community have been doing to boost Family Planning uptake. He will draw from lessons learned from initiatives such as the “Ouagadougou Partnership” and the “Challenge Initiative” and offers reflections on what needs to be done to sustain recent gains and accelerate progress.
This panel discussion will cover the landscape for reproductive rights advocacy in the aftermath of the 2020 election, as well as Population Connection and Population Connection Action Fund’s plans for our grassroots programs in 2021.
