We held the first installment of our virtual series spotlighting on-the-ground visits to our global partners!
This session focused on Seeds for a Future, an organization dedicated to providing long-term training for rural families and communities in Guatemala to grow their own sustainable and healthy food.
We first heard from Population Connection Senior Analyst Hannah Evans, who visited Guatemala recently to see the work of Seeds in action.
Next, Leilani Yats, Executive Director of Seeds for a Future, delved deeper into the organization and its goals.
We celebrated International Day for Biological Diversity with a virtual trivia event!
In collaboration with the Center for Biological Diversity, we invited supporters to test their knowledge, learn new facts, and connect with others who care about people and the planet. Round topics included biological diversity, reproductive health and rights, endangered species, and population milestones. If you did not have the chance to participate live or want to rechallenge yourself, you can access the Biodiversity Trivia Quiz below!
As our global population continues to grow, so do the pressures on our environment, natural resources, and climate. Yet, discussions about overpopulation still remain largely absent from mainstream sustainability conversations.
This Earth Day, Population Connection President and CEO John Seager joined us to discuss the urgent need for comprehensive strategies to stabilize global population growth. During his presentation, John highlighted rights-based solutions such as improving access to family planning, providing quality education for all, and promoting sustainable economies to shape a more balanced future for people and the planet. Following his presentation was a Q&A session with our Senior Analyst, Hannah Evans, who asked questions submitted by the audience.
We participated in the 58th session of the UN Commission on Population and Development by hosting an official virtual side event with Population Media Center and Women for Conservation! We were joined by three compelling storytellers and population stabilization advocates for a 90-minute panel discussion.
Reproductive health and rights and bodily autonomy are key to advancing Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, Good Health and Well-being. During the panel, speakers showcased how their organizations’ work helps remove barriers to family planning and empowers women and girls.
Empowering women and girls is one of the most effective sustainable development levers, yet women’s rights sadly remain severely underfunded. We must change that!
To mark this year’s International Women’s Day, we were joined by Wendo Sahar, Founder and Executive Director of Dandelion Africa. Dandelion Africa is a Kenyan, women-led NGO focused on women’s health and economic empowerment. Their programs focus on women’s and girls’ reproductive health, maternal child health, economic livelihoods, and advocacy on gender-based violence through men’s engagement.
We were thrilled to host Nandita Bajaj, Executive Director of Population Balance, to examine the roles of population growth and over-consumption in today’s most pressing global crises—climate change, resource scarcity, species extinction, and biodiversity collapse.
While leading scientific authorities recognize these connections, there has been widespread dismissal of the consequences of population growth within major global agencies, particularly the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Nandita highlighted how this denial undermines the UN’s objectives surrounding human rights and sustainable development.
